I took Nathan and Daphne to get the H1N1 vaccine today. The health department commandeered an old clinic to administer vaccinations for children 6 months-4 years from 12pm to 5pm while supplies lasted. So after picking Daphne and her friend up from preschool we headed downtown to get a quick shot. We arrived at 11:30am and although we found an awesome parking spot, we had to take our place at the back of a line extending three blocks. We had food and the kids had warm coats so I figured after the doors opened at noon the line would move along.
Two and half hours later we were still an hour and a half away from even seeing a needle. But after waiting that long I couldn't leave even though I was beginning to have contractions, Nathan was getting fussy and the cold was seeping through our coats. However, about 15 minutes before we would have reached the front doors Daphne disappeared. After running up and down the three blocks crammed with moms and strollers, calling her name and on the verge of hysteria, Daphne was finally found and I was done. Losing Daphne purged me of all emotional and physical stamina, so after all that, I gathered up the kids, walked back to our awesome parking spot, and went home for some hot chocolate and a nap.

oh no! hope next time is easier:-)
That is such crap.I hope you were able to go home and lie down. UT is out and I'm not looking forward to standing in the line when they come back in.
That picture is hilarious. I guess pigs get it from and give it to humans.
Your line up experience reminds me of childhood memories...waiting in line at Banks and school for polio vaccination. The bank experience was a doozie by the time we got to the front I was in flight mode and it too 2 awful people to hold me down. As a treat we got to jump on a trampoline afterwards. At school it was oral dose, live I think.
I am amazed and appalled at the H1n1 panic in the media. The chatter(including my own) on FB is a good indicator on how paranoid everyone has become. I was talking to school principal yesterday. She thinks parents and kids being more vigilant about precautions ie handwashing, covering coughs and keeping kids home has paid off. Absence is down at school just from normal stuff that goes around.
Hope you recovered from your day. love ya!
That sounds terrible. We went today to get Britt and Juliette theirs (Britt gets one because she's pregnant). Brittany got there at 8:00 AM and we got home at noon. I thought about you while we were in line and how I would hate my life if, nearing the end, we were forced to turn back by unruly children combined w/fatigue.
That is awful. I can't believe you had to wait so long. They have got to come up with a better solution than having parents wait outside in the cold.
argh, what a frustrating time of it. I think we all had the H1N1/Swine flu. Of course our doctor/county health dept didn't pay the $400 to officially have Matt's nose swab confirmed beyond "H1N1 type", but the majority of our small community has come down with the classic symptoms and so far survived tolerably well. Of course I haven't blog about it yet. House projects seem to be all that's happening, hah ha. Not really.
I DID take the Tamiflu anti-viral when I started having the same symptoms as everyone else in the family: achy coughing fever. The cough is what makes this flu extra hard, you really feel it in the chest. Plus the kids had pretty high fevers on and off for 2-3days. But we all pulled through fine. Thank goodness!
I hope you have another chance at the vaccine or at least get Tamiflu for yourself if your kids/hubby come down with it.
ps that's a great picture. : )
Hi Heather, This is Amber from your Wyview ward. I found your blog from my Google Suggestions. My profile name might throw you off because one of the blogs I write on already has someone with my name, so I had to change it. I'm glad I found your blog, how fun! I'm one of those long comment people you wrote about in a previous post, so don't worry, I'm on your side as far as that goes.
What an awful experience! I think I'd be crying AND screaming at my kids by that point. I don't dare go get a swine flu shot with horrendous lines and four children. Pray for us that my cowardice doesn't kill us all! BTW, I wrote ANOTHER response to Doug's highly popular Name Game post.
Love ya!
Hi Doug and family,
Awesome picture! Looks like your kids are having lots of fun. Doug, if you want to catch up some time, you can send e-mail me at flashpotatoes@gmail.com.
