Blogging Coolness

Two things regarding blogging have recently come to my attention and I'm wondering if I should care or try to be blogging cool.

The first question is about posting comments. I tend to leave long descriptive comments on other peoples' blogs. Is this a blogging fauxpaux? Sometimes I wonder if leaving long winded comments is considered annoying or if I should strive harder to leave snappy or clever one-liners.

The second question is about the baby ticker. Apparently, baby tickers and other such blog paraphernalia are the butt of Mormon Mommy jokes. Heaven forbid that I come across as a Mormon Mommy blogger. (Although yes, I am a Mormon, a Mommy, and I have a blog.) I just considered the ticker encouragement that "this too shall pass, here's a picture to prove it."

Watta ya think? Am I that person in the blogging world that wears tapered acid washed jeans and sprays her bangs in true rainbow form?

I think you can leave a comment however long you want and do whatever you want on your blog. Because it is yours. I hate floating babies when they don't look like babies. But I mean, Bethany had TWO floating babies so if you aren't cool then what does that make her? HAHAHA

Also, I think the most important thing for me when reading a blog or comments is authenticity. It is disappointing to read comments and posts by people I know and their blog persona and their personality conflict.

So wave your freak flag if you have one :)

You're so funny! I must emphatically agree with Jenny, it's your blog. I had the weird growing peanut ticker, which was weird looking, but I loved seeing the number of days go down and reminding myself that it will be over someday.

And I actually prefer longer comments, they are much more fun to read rather than "how cute" or "that's awesome" or blah blah blah. Hope you are doing well!

Long comments are great. I love them. It is so much better than the:
"I agree"
People enjoy that you have taken the time to read their blog, and then commented your thoughts.
Also the baby ticker - yes, they are somewhat of a joke. But then I think it is better then every post saying, "By the way - I have 155 days left of my pregnancy" because you know we do forget the due dates sometimes.

I like your long comments because I hear your voice saying them in my head. I am sure I commit many blog faux-pas but I blog for my family and friends who know I commit more faux-pas than that on a regular basis. Seriously, I think you're cool no matter what... and go baby-ticker go! Then your friends and family won't have to ask you how far along you are all the time. Uh oh, I hope I haven't over-worded my comment- ha ha!

Did you read the Ensign article on Blogging? My only concern about blogging is security. Think its lame to have "rules" about a journal but I'm always aware that cyber space is NOT a private place. Anything you say can and will be used against you and it cannot be deleted. Talk about do do do do do do do doo.
That said, I really enjoy keeping up with kids and grands.
At first I didn't like the floating baby. Sort of stark/not cute enough, HOWEVER...when I log in its the first thing I see and I'm always excited to see the days counting down! Go figure.
Blogging is wierd. Its personal so say what you like. For the reader there needs to be a measure of entertainment. Whats the purpose anyway?
Now how about those wierdos that comment and endlessly ramble on.
Love ya.

I love long comments too, as long as it's not the great american novel. Then I'd prefer to see it as that person's own blog post. Your comments to me have never come close to that. I'm talking pages worth of comment. I'm not a fan of the baby ticker for me personally but I do appreciate the helpfulness of the timeline. I NEVER remember due dates. It's personal preference, not whether it's cool or not. Do whatever you want! Just because someone has made fun of something popular doesn't condemn everyone who does it to being uncool. No worries, is all I'm saying. Just do what you like! How's this for a long comment? It's not even intelligently written. Love ya!

if long comments are "uncool" than we can be out of style together. as you may have noticed, I tend to be long winded!! but generally I like reading long comments as well. sometimes I'll email my comment if what I have to say is extremely long or personal etc, but that's not THAT often. I think how well you know the blogger matters too.

As for the baby counter, that is totally personal pref! I think the only gadget I have is a book list from good reads. My only pet peeve is loading blogs that have like 20 apps and tons of bling everywhere so it takes for-ev-er to read (or more likely) scroll to the bottom of whatever post I want to leave the comment on since most of my reading I do in Google Reader. Everyone has a different level of detail they want to share. I liked what the Ensign had to say about blogs as well.

Long comments, freaky baby cartoons, and blogs in general should be outlawed.
